The cheapest vehicle in North America

The cheapest vehicle in North America now has its own race league, but only for those who live in Canada.

Nissan Canada is launching the Micra Cup which will run over the course of five weekends starting in May of 2015. For now, the league will run exclusively in the province of Quebec, though Nissan says it has potential to expand to other provinces in 2016. Each weekend will offer the competitors two hours of track time consisting of: a 30-minute trial, a 30-minute qualifying session and two 30-minute races.

To get a fully race-prepped Micra, participants have to drop only $19,998 CDN, which includes installation of all the modifications. For that price, you get a NISMO-tuned suspension, FIA-approved race seat with a five-point harness, a fire extinguisher, a modified exhaust, high-performance brake pads, a safety cage, a driver protection net, front and rear towhooks and new wheels fit with Pirelli high-performance tires.

Beyond all the add-ons, the Micra Cup will also have the seats, floor and door panels removed to reduce weight and prepare it for the conversion. Powering the car is the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 109 hp and 107 lb-ft of torque.
