Rouge Center in Dearborn to support the launch of the 2015 Ford F-150

Ford to add 850 new jobs at Dearborn F-150 plant

Ford announced Monday that it will add 850 new hourly positions at the Rouge Center in Dearborn to support the launch of the 2015 Ford F-150.

The jobs will be divided among three facilities at Rouge Center--Dearborn Stamping, Dearborn Diversified and Dearborn Truck. Dearborn Truck just completed a massive renovation in order to accommodate production of the all-new, aluminum-bodied pickup.

In 2011, Ford set a goal of creating 12,000 new hourly jobs in the United States by 2015 as part of its contract negotiations with the United Automobile Workers (UAW), a threshold which they have already surpassed with more than 14,000 jobs created to date.

Coming off a weak September that was partially attributed to the 2015 F-150's delayed production and dwindling supply of remaining 2014 models, Ford needs to finish the year strong in order to maintain momentum toward its margin and volume goals established for 2020.

The 2015 F-150 represents a massive gamble for Ford, but one which seems poised to pay off big-time for the iconic nameplate. Ford says the switch to an aluminum body has resulted in projected fuel economy improvements of as much as five perecent, while also allowing for more towing and payload capacity thanks to the reduction in overall vehicle weight.
