Jaguar XE provides designer convertible

Jaguar designer envisions XE convertible, wagon, long-wheelbase edition

Jaguar design head Ian Callum has hinted at several different body styles to branch from the new XE.

He has reportedly sketched a coupe, wagon and long-wheelbase edition, and is considering drawing up a convertible variant.

"I know what these things look like," he told CarAdvice, without confirming if any of the ideas are already being developed into production models.

The executive cautioned that Jaguar has much lower volume than BMW and Mercedes-Benz, both of which have been regularly expanding their respective lineups with several different body variations in the same segment.

The British company recently announced plans to build a new SUV, based on the C-X17 concept, that will be built upon the same modular aluminum architecture that underpins the XE.

The lightweight platform required billions in development costs, suggesting more models will be added in the coming years. Jaguar may be waiting to see how the market responds to the XE's arrival next year before greenlighting any of the additional bodystyles.
